Bespoke Immersive Build. Inspiration: Your Mom’s House
Project Brief
Corporate celebrations and events are an excellent way to reward loyal employees or to wow investors, but more and more, guests are wanting something beyond the norm.
Every year, Zumiez rewards their employees with a large, immersive, company-wide celebration. These high end parties go beyond the typical celebration, weaving immersive and interactive elements into an annual theme. Their goal is to create a magical experience that allows their staff to unwind in a big way. This year, the theme was “Your Mom’s House” and they called upon Alt Ethos to create three immersive spaces that gave people a space to decompress and play.
Challenge
The event took place in a convention center, a space that is, by necessity, a blank slate. Alt Ethos was tasked with creating an outdoor space, a decompression room, and a prize room, all within theme. Each space needed to transform this blank slate into something fantastical while accommodating over 3,000 people and meeting all standard fire code/safety requirements.

Alt Ethos worked in close collaboration with Zumiez to create three incredible spaces.
SPACE 1: THE BACK YARD Set outdoors in a mountain town in the middle of January, this first space was meant to act as a gathering place away from the hustle and bustle going on inside. Alt Ethos transformed a winter wonderland into a summer backyard – complete with tiki torches, green astro turf, a magical lit pergola, fire pit, and bbq area. Guests roasted marshmallows and ate hot dogs while enjoying a warmed up summer evening – in the middle of winter.
SPACE 2: THE BLANKET FORT A long empty hallway was transformed into an interactive 80ft long blanket fort. Featuring cozy areas to sit, over 100 stuffed animals, and lights controlled by the guests. This area served as the perfect decompression room.
SPACE 3: THE GIANT RETRO TELEVISION PRIZE ROOM Zumiez does not hold back when they reward their employees, and they tasked Alt Ethos with creating the ultimate prize booth that went with the decor and theme inside the main area. Alt Ethos created a 20ft wide x 20ft deep x 12ft high retro television set. Guests could go inside the television and claim their prizes amongst LED tubing and interactive static projections.
